Tech Raising was not your usual client project. It was more like a grand gathering, a supportive community structure in which every idea was given the opportunity to flourish. I personally was given the gift of helping brands grow. This is my favorite thing about Santa Cruz, California, and every event that happens there. Love is always in the air.
I was one of the few, coveted designers in the building. We journeyed from group to group, assisting them in our part of making their dreams come true. I gave advice on existing brands, guided start-ups on the usability and future of their products, and shared a few pints of beer with some astounding thinkers. The start-up projects ranged from tech to baby shoes to cannabis, and everywhere in between. It was a weekend-long festival.
In the end, I came out with one logo design that I really enjoy. Because we had an amazing workshop with renowned UX Designer Jose Caballer, I was able to use my personal power with the structure of design thinking to quickly iterate a logo with tech brand Hookalu. Because Hookalu assist web owners on site performance using webhooks, I created a logo with them based in the concept of the webhooks logo, with an ocean-vibe Santa Cruz feel. My relationship with Hookalu is far from over, and the logo (like all good logos) will probably go through several more versions before it’s perfect. I look forward to what the future holds for them. I believe that it is bright.
It is also worth noting that I was awarded enough “tokens” for assisting others throughout the weekend that I won a pair of wireless headphones. Since I love helping and I love winning, way more than I could ever love headphones, this was pretty exciting for me.
